Four ways to get a free letter from Santa

Search for a free letter from Santa and you will find printables, online forms, post office programs and local events. Each suits a different family, so here they are side by side.

Write it yourself

If you enjoy writing, a template gives you the letterhead and structure. Our letter from Santa template is free, prints at home and takes about ten minutes, and every word is yours.

A free online letter

A free online letter does the writing for you: answer a few questions and a personal letter arrives by email. That is what we offer. The short version of the catch is that we will send you Santa emails, and you can unsubscribe whenever you like.

A North Pole postmark

In the United States, the Postal Service has run a holiday postmark program for years. You write the letter and send it inside a larger envelope so it comes back with a North Pole postmark. Addresses and deadlines change every year, so check the USPS website before you mail anything.

A local Santa mailbox

Many libraries, parks departments and community groups put up a Santa mailbox in December. Children drop in their own letter and get a reply. It is a lovely ritual, though volunteers answering hundreds of letters often keep replies short.

How our free letter from Santa works

  1. Start with your email. Use the box at the top or bottom of this page. Santa sends the letter there, so pick an inbox you check.
  2. Tell Santa about your child. Your first name, your child's first name and age range, who the letter is from, and five happy things: something they love, something they did this year that you are proud of, a favorite toy or activity, a person or pet they love, and something they are proud of or working on. Their Christmas list is optional.
  3. Check your email. Santa writes in under a minute. We email you a private link to the letter, which also confirms your address. Read it first, then print it and read it together.

It takes about three minutes, and nothing is mailed, so there is nothing to wait for.

What you get in the free letter

  • A personal letter with your child's name and the five things you shared, signed by Santa.
  • A printable PDF you can save, print, forward to family or tuck into a memory box.
  • Free remakes if a name or detail needs fixing.
  • A letter that never promises a particular gift, so Christmas morning stays yours.

After you sign up we show some optional extras: Santa reading the letter aloud as an MP3 for $4.99, a personal video from Santa, or a phone call from Santa. Each one shows its price before you pay, and your free letter comes by email whether or not you add anything.

Is it really free? The honest fine print

Yes. Here is everything that comes with it, so nothing is a surprise later:

  • No credit card. We never ask for card details to send the free letter.
  • One free gift per family. Each email address and household gets either the free letter or the free video from Santa, not both.
  • Our emails. When you request the letter we also send you Santa updates and offers. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe.
  • Extras are optional. Anything you add later is a separate one-time purchase, shown with its price before you pay. There is no subscription.
  • Busy days. If a daily limit is reached we may pause free letters for a while, and the form will tell you if that happens.

The full rules are in our Terms of Sale.

Who writes the letter?

Santa does, with help, and we would rather be plain about how. AI writing tools draft each letter from our templates plus the details you share, which is how it can be ready in under a minute.

AI can make mistakes, so the letter always comes to you first, never straight to your child, and remakes are free. Our AI disclosure explains each product, and how AI Santa works goes into more detail for curious parents.

Choosing the five happy things

The details you share are what make a letter feel like Santa has really been paying attention. A few things that help:

  • Small and recent beats big and general. "Learned to tie her shoes in October" lands better than "is a good girl".
  • Use the names your child uses. The dog is Biscuit, not "our dog". Grandma might be Nana or Mimi.
  • Pick one thing they are proud of and one they are working on. Santa can cheer for both.
  • Keep it happy. A gentle nudge is fine; a warning is not.
  • The list is optional. If you add it, Santa may say he saw the list, but he never promises anything on it.
Sample details for a fictional child

Something she loves: dinosaurs, especially the long-necked ones.

Something she did this year: started kindergarten and made a friend called Ava.

A favorite toy or activity: building towers with her wooden blocks.

A person or pet she loves: Grandpa Joe, who reads to her on Sundays.

Something she is working on: being brave at swimming lessons.

Making an emailed letter feel like North Pole mail

With a little staging, a PDF feels every bit as special as a stamped envelope:

  • Print it on cream, ivory or lightly textured paper at 100% scale.
  • Fold it in thirds and address the envelope with their first name, in handwriting your child will not recognize.
  • Close it with a gold star sticker or a wax seal.
  • Leave it somewhere surprising, like the mantel or the cookie plate.
  • Read it together slowly, and let your child hold the letter.

Early December sets the tone for the season, and the week before Christmas builds the excitement. For more ideas, read how to make a letter from Santa feel real.

What we ask for, and what we do not

We ask for first names and happy details only. Please do not enter a last name, address, school or photos. The form is for grown-ups who are the child's parent or guardian, or have their permission.

Your child's details never go into links, analytics or ads. They are not shared with advertisers, they are not used to train AI, and we delete them 60 days after delivery, or sooner if you ask. Our Privacy Policy has the full detail.

Sending a free letter as a grandparent

Grandparents can request the free letter too. The grandparent version of the form talks about your grandchild, and the letter and its private link go to the parents' inbox, so they can choose the right moment to share it. You can add a short note to the parents if you like.

It is still one free gift per family, so check with the parents first.

Free letter from Santa questions

Is the letter from Santa really free?

Yes. There is no credit card and no obligation. Each family gets one free gift from Santa, either the free letter or the free video. When you request it we also send you Santa updates and offers by email, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

How long does a free letter from Santa take?

Santa writes in under a minute, and the private link to the letter usually reaches your inbox within a few minutes. If you do not see it, check your spam or promotions folder.

Do you mail a paper letter?

No. The letter comes by email as a printable PDF. You print it at home, so there is no postage and no waiting for the mail.

What do I need to tell Santa?

Your first name and email, your child's first name and age range, who the letter is from, and five happy things about them. Their Christmas list is optional. Please do not enter a last name, address, school or photos.

Is the letter written by AI?

AI writing tools draft each letter from our templates plus the details you share, which is how it can be ready in under a minute. The letter comes to you first, so you can read it before your child does, and remakes are free if anything needs fixing.

Will Santa promise my child a gift?

No. Santa may say he has seen their list, but he never promises a particular gift, so Christmas morning stays in your hands.

Can I get a free letter for each of my children?

The free letter is one per family. A personal letter for another child is available as a paid letter for $9.95, and the price is always shown before you pay.

What if my child's name or a detail is wrong?

Tell us and we remake it free. Santa's Helper in our help center can fix a detail and resend the letter right away.

Can grandparents request a free letter?

Yes. The grandparent version of the form is written for a grandchild, and the letter goes to the parents' inbox so they can share it at the right moment.
